What is Clear Cutting

Clear Cutting
Clear Cutting is when trees are cut down from a selective area. This method is very common in logging companies. Clear cutting enables forest operators to get the most out of a forest for the lowest cost.
Clear Cutting in Ontario

In Ontario, 88% of forest operations use clear-cutting as their primary method of extraction. In Ontario, clear-cuts routinely exceed 5000 hectares and are sometimes even as large as 10,000 hectares – this is roughly the size of 4000 football fields put together. Forest companies prefer clear cutting because it is the most cheapest and efficient way of cutting trees. In 2003, the canadian government wanted to reduce the amount of clear cutting and stated they do not want it to exceed" 260 Hectares". Yet knowing that, over 50% of the loggers exceed this size. Forestry has helped growing our economy but if loggers continue to cut trees using this method there can be future consequences.
